We’re excited to launch our Meet the Team series, where each week we’ll introduce one of the people behind Patel Nand Legal. From courtroom advocates to behind-the-scenes problem solvers, our team brings a wide range of skills and personalities to the table. First up: Shalvin Sharma, Senior Solicitor.
If you’ve worked with our litigation team, you’ve probably come across Shalvin. He works closely with Radhe Nand one of our Managing Directors, across a range of legal matters including litigation, criminal law, employment disputes, and family law.
A typical day for Shalvin involves time in court, client meetings, and working through files with the wider team. He’s often found preparing submissions, reviewing evidence, or strategising next steps on complex cases.
Why law?
Shalvin knew early on that law was the path for him. Surrounded by lawyers in his family and community, he decided at around age 8 or 9 that he wanted to become one himself.
What drives him professionally?
As he’s progressed in his career, Shalvin has taken on more responsibility and enjoys supporting junior team members while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing environment.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
“You start behind the eight ball, you'll never get in front!”
What makes working in law rewarding?
For Shalvin, it’s all about the courtroom. He enjoys the challenge of litigation and the opportunity to advocate for clients in high-stakes situations.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Patel Nand Legal?
“The team environment and culture.”
Outside the office?
Shalvin’s downtime is all about football and family. His go-to spot in Auckland? Amano, for coffee, lunch, or a weekend visit. And if you’re wondering whether there’s anything surprising to learn about him—he’ll tell you himself: “Nothing! I’m an open book.”
